What I found most exciting about THE RAID was how each action sequence was its own little story that had a clear beginning, middle and end. I think this is the first action film in quite some time (excluding the FAST AND FURIOUS movies, which are always EXCELLENT) that held my attention for the entire running time. It’s a movie as good as everyone says.
If time is the new currency, I think it’s the filmmaker’s responsibility to have some sense of what that looks like and how it relates to the world in which your audience exists. A cup of coffee is worth five minutes but a six-pack of beer is worth an hour?
